About

Welcome to my little corner of the World Wide Web.

Not much goes on here, other than me sharing random thoughts and ideas that may occur to me as the days go by and linking photos I take in my wanders.  If you’re expecting a deep insightful commentary on the world at large, you’re probably in the wrong place.  Ofcourse should I suddenly be hit by an epiphany I will be sure to share.

The purpose of this blog is mainly to keep in touch with family and friends around the world and give them a central place to keep up to date with what I am up to.

My name is Les, my online presence is glod.  Somehow that ‘tag’ has been following me around online since the first day I connected to the internet back in  1993,  even before that on some local BBS systems.  I am far too close to ‘middle aged’ and live in Ayrshire,  Scotland, about 40 minutes from Glasgow.

I worked for 11 years in the electronics industry, moving swiftly from the electronics side of things to installing, configuring and maintaining the test systems, servers and network.  In my spare time I have a few hobbies.  Some of them even involve stepping away from the box of electronics that is my PC.

I spend many hours at my PC, you could call it my main hobby.  I use it for everything:

  • Communicating with friends and family(Skype / IM / email)
  • Working on art/graphics and digital photography
  • Designing and maintaining websites
  •  Administering and configuring some linux based servers on my home network
  • Occasionally, gaming.

Most of my gaming of late is on consoles.  I have several consoles taking up space; from the SNES and Dreamcast to the PS2 and Wii and Xbox 360.

When I manage to drag myself away from the computer I am often found out and about with my camera. I also enjoy going out on my bike, riding around the local countryside and keeping tropical fish, which I find to be a most relaxing hobby.  Reading is something I enjoy too, ‘tho somehow even with so few demands on my time I still don’t manage to read as much as I might like.
